Winter Games

Program Report

February 2009

Dear Friends,

so logoWinter games was a success. Central Region looked great and we are so proud of the athletes, coaches and volunteers. Overall the athletes had a great time and that is all that really matters. We do this for them. Also a congratulations to the two central region floor hockey teams that brought home a gold medal. Good Job you guys!

We want to thank all the coaches and volunteers for all their dedication and help throughout the winter season. Without your support our athletes would not get to have the chance to compete like they did.

With winter games now behind us we have a lot to get ready for; spring/summer season is right around the corner. We will be updating you with information on events and requirements we have to meet so please continue to check your emails and read the program report because that is where we will be hiding all the important information you will need.

Thank you and have a great week.

~ First off, Thank you once again coaches for being so great during Winter games I know there were some challenges we faced, but thank you for staying calm and working through them in the best way possible. We would appreciate your feedback about the games so we can bring any concerns to the program meeting we will be having in the next couple of weeks with the rest of the Special Olympics staff. Any feedback would be appreciated and helpful.

~ Spring/Summer season is going to start soon and we need all coaches participating to send us the following information.

          - What sport you coach

          - Where you practice

          - When you practice

          - When Practice will start

          - Any other information that needs to be included, favorite color and best restaurant is not needed, thank you!

~ I know it is early, but if you know your teams already and who will be on your team, please send in a roster as soon as possible so we can get those into headquarters. You can find the forms on the online file folder. We are no longer doing edit sheets and we are switching over to just rosters, much easier. So please fill them out when you know all your information and get those into the office. Thank you for your cooperation.

                ~ COACHES CONFERENCE~

Hey Hey Hey coaches we will be doing another coaches conference next month and we would like your input!!

What sports do you want to be certified in? What do you want to learn about? Do you have any questions or concerns about Special Olympics that you want answered?

If you like to hear the soothing man voice of Mr. Sean Coakley, and you have a sincere interest in the betterment of our athletes and you want to further your education as a coach then send us some input of what YOU want to hear at the coaches conference.

Please send your suggestions to either the man of the hour at scoakley@nyso.org or the lady with the kind face at mquinn@nyso.org. We will be more than happy to accommodate you... with limitations!

Upcoming Events

We have some upcoming events that you should look out for. We are still working out all the details but don't forget to mark those calendars and save the dates!

- March 7th Bball skills at Utica College.

- April 4th Aquatics at Weedsport

Medical and Consent

Coaches, after getting things ready for winter games I realized that there were some med and consent forms that were out of date. There were athletes that were practicing with expired med and consent forms. This is not acceptable. As a coach one of the responsibilities is to make sure that all of the athletes med and conset forms are up to date. When one is expired then you are to inform the office and I will get the athlete a new form as soon as possible.

For this upcoming season, please check all your med and consents for those that will be participating in a spring/summer sport. Please note that they expire every three years and if they are going to expire during training or right before games they still need to fill a new one out. Furthermore, we are only accepting med and consents that are filled out completely because headquarters will not accept anything else. They must be signed by both doctor and either parent or athlete as well as dated. All athlete information must be filled out including insurance information. All the athletes information is confidential so there is nothing to worry about and they are kept in a locked office so please inform parents or guardians if they are concerned.

I would appreciate your help in the effort to make all our med and consents clear and acceptable. Let's strive for no expired medicals this coming summer games!

Winter Games Pictures

We got some pictures sent to us of winter games. Take a look at them, maybe there is one of you!
